Monday Moments

It's been a while.

Awkward:

  • I was speed walking to class, shoving a granola bar trying not to be late, when all of the sudden a piece goes down the wrong pipe. Picture me still walking fast but wheezing and gasping with watery eyes. Don't worry, after chugging my half of my water bottle, I was fine.
  • Going to Smith's at 11pm on a Saturday with Taylor, only to find half of provo already there. Did I mention we were in sweats and looking mighty fine?
  • The loser who stole my nice camelback water bottle (with chill jacket) from the spinning room at the gym. You know who you are, thief.

Awesome:

  • 502 repins... what?
  • Getting a 99 out of 100 on my Anatomy lab test. Do you know how big this is? HUGE. It means I knew 99% of the lower body muscles, tendons, and ligaments. I love feeling smart.
  • The cool crisp days, knee high boots, wool socks, and warm soups and drinks.
  • On Saturday, my ward went to the Manti Temple. It was so incredibly beautiful and such a great way to spend the day.

Monday Moments

Awkward:

  • This:

Yes, this is my light fixture hanging from my ceiling. This is the second time this has happened. Story time. I was sitting on my bed, studying. It was around 1:30 am (procrastinator alert), and I hear all these scratchy noises, like nails on glass. I'm getting legitimately freaked out, so I hop out of bed and go be the door. That's when I see my light free itself from the ceiling and start swinging around by the wire. I sucked myself to the corner in case it fell (that sucker was H-O-T) and once it calmed down, I put some wool socks on my hands, got on my chair and steadied it. I made sure it wouldn't fall, and you better believe I prayed that it wouldn't fall while I was sleeping. Did I mention this is the SECOND time?? Luckily my dad was there the first time to fix it. This time I'm making sure they glue that sucker to the ceiling.
  • So. Much. Studying.
  • Snow last week? We did have fall, it was from 12am to approximately 6am on Thursday morning. If you were sleeping, you missed it.

Awesome:
  • I got to chat with Charles Abouo at the football game. Not a big deal.
  • The snow has disappeared, thank goodness, and fall will now resume as planned.
  • These little cuties dropped off cookies on Conference Sunday. They are the cutest neighbors I ever did see!

Monday Moments

Awkward:

  • Waking up 20 minutes before your alarm, realizing you have to pee. Then deciding if it's worth it to get up and go, and try to sleep for 18 more minutes, or try to sleep through the discomfort. Worst feeling ever.
  • The crazy amount of pot that was being smoked at the Fleet Foxes concert. One of the members of The Walkmen actually said, "Hey, are you guys smokin' pot?" The response was "Wooooo!!! Yeeeaaahh!" Everyone was really friendly, though.
  • It says in my mission packet to pack 4-5 outfits. What? And wear them 75 times each? Psssh, heck no!
  • The dumb anatomy jokes I come up with. The latest is 'I'm gonna kick your acetabulum'. Whoa, I'm a nerd.

Awesome:

  • How freaking amazing Fleet Foxes was! Oh my word, I swear they are better live. I was near tears the whole time, thinking it was a spiritual experience. Later, I realized it was probably the pot I was smelling. But pot or no pot, they were awesome.
  • A random boy walked past me and said, "Hey, nice toms". Thank you, random boy. I like my toms too.
  • I've spotted a little bit of yellow in the trees! Fall is near!

Monday Moments: Back to School

Here we go again. This morning, my alarm clock went off bright and early and told me that summer was over. No more lazy, carefree days with friends. No more doing whatever I want, when I want. No more summer. Now, it's back to class, books, lab reports, and studying. Back to hours in lab, the testing center, and note taking.

But you know what? I'm kinda excited. I love meeting new people in class. I love learning. I love being in college. And, since I'm only here for fall semester before I head out for the mission, I'm going to make it great.

Awkward:

  • Today in class, I heard someone hooting. I turned to Kristen and said, "Is there an owl in here or something??". Well, turns out, a guy in the back had Tourette's. Yeah, I felt bad.
  • When people try to 'slyly' peek at your notes. You know, the awkward head crane, their eyes dart out to the side without turning their head, then they write down exactly what you just wrote. Just because you're spacing out doesn't mean you should copy my notes, thank you.
  • How flaming hot it is outside. I loved walking into my first class looking like I just ran a mile.
  • I'm pretty much going to be living in the Smith Field House this semester, so feel free to come visit me there.
  • We called the bishop on Friday to see if my call had been assigned (if the status says assigned, then the call will be in the mail on Wednesday). And guess what. It wasn't. Back to another week of wondering and difficulty falling asleep.
  • How many dreams I've had about my mission call. So far I've been called to Chile, Venezuela, Guatemala, and Switzerland.

Awesome:

  • Seeing my lovely roommates again. I still say they are my roommates, even though we don't live together anymore.
  • Mission call: T minus 9 days! (I hope)
  • I have a private room this semester. My heart is singing with joy. So much space.
  • A crazy 30 minutes with my best friends. It included singing "Hollaback Girl" at the top of our lungs and laughing our bums off. Boy, I've got some great friends.
  • I'm a JUNIOR in college. Since when am I in college? Since when am I a junior in college? What is this world coming to?

Monday Moments: UK style

It's been a little bit since we've had some awkwards and awesomes, huh? So, I've been taking some notes since Ireland, and I have a few to share with you.

Awkward:

  • In Ireland, the 'th' sound doesn't exist. So, we met at "Tree tirty at St. Patrick caTEEdral".
  • The first day we got to Dublin, it was the Gay Pride festival. We passed a big party on the way to the hostel, and the girls said, "what's that? It looks like fun." Peter, our driver, said "Tat be the gay pride festival. I don't tink tat's you're scene, girls." Yeah, I don't think so either.
  • Yesterday, we passed by a grandpa wearing a black and white polka dot dress and red heels. He didn't even bother to try and look like a woman. No shaving or anything. Interesting.
  • "Extra Ice" doesn't exist here. Extra ice means 6 cubes instead of 4.
  • The bathrooms at McDonald's have unisex hand washing stations. It's kind of awkward.
  • Short shorts and tights are on the rage here in the UK.
  • Diapers = Nappies. So... Nappy Changing Station. NAPPY!!
  • It seems the UK people have caught on to the whole "Deodorant is a good thing" movement, but other foreigners have not. You'll pass by someone, or sit by them on the tube, and it's like a punch in the nose. Stanky.

Awesome:

  • How incredibly nice the McDonald's are here. It's fancy and clean and I love it. This makes it sound like I go to McDonald's all the time. Which is partly true. We usually get some DC's on the run, but we've only eaten there twice. I just felt the need to explain myself. Moving on.
  • Every single bathroom stall I have seen has been crack-less. Meaning, when you shut the door, you can't see out of any cracks. A blessing.
  • I usually get ice cream nearly every where we go. And you know what? Every time it is delish. And you know what else? I don't feel bad about it. Because we walk our little hineys off all day every day. P.S, if you haven't had a Magnum bar yet... who are you? Get one now!
  • Student discounts are our best friends.
  • Paris in 10 days :)

Monday Moments

It's here, people.

Awkward:

  • I missed the Bachelorette tonight. BIG BOO! If there's free wifi during my 5 hour layover... you all know what I'll be doing. I heard Satan comes back in the next episode. I think some punching faces is in order.
  • Trying to pack 7 weeks worth of provisions in one suitcase. Oh, and making it weigh 50 pounds. And not having a proper scale to weigh the suitcase. So, the process went as this. 1. Weigh self  2. Get off scale 3. Get back on scale and grab suitcase 4. Cuss at scale for being temperamental and repeat steps two and three 5. Finally get accurate weight and subtract from your weight without suitcase. This is when you get really upset that you are 5 pounds overweight. Step 6 is try to consolidate and put anything possible and non liquid in your purse and backpack including: voltage converters, chargers, 24 slimfast bars, travel alarm clock, and books.
  • The fact that my mom said Go to bed now. No blogging, and here I am, at 11:50, not in bed, and blogging.

Awesome:

  • At 11:45 p.m. in the library, they make an announcement that the library will be closing. And if that is not enough incentive to get out of the library (come on, it's almost midnight on a Friday, I shouldn't have been in there anyway), they start blasting music to interrupt any studying you were doing. Sometimes it's tribal music and will scare the living daylights out of you after intense silence. Well, last friday, they played Montezuma by Fleet Foxes. As you know, they are my favorite. It was the absolute best. Needless to say, I took my time walking out of the library that night. The next night, we were studying late again, and this time they played Closing Time by Semisonic, starting at Closing time, you don't have to go home but you can't stay here. Awesome.
  • While waiting in line at the testing center to take a final, some guy was playing the ukulele while zig-zagging through the line. I love seeing uke people. It makes me happy.
  • TOMORROW I AM HEADED TO IRELAND! WOO HOO!

I am so excited to get over to the UK. I really am so so blessed to have this opportunity, and I cannot wait to blog about it!

Day 16: A song that you used to like, but now hate. For me, that's anything that gets overplayed on the radio. Namely, Lady Gaga and the likes. But I don't want to post about that. Remember? I only post good music. So, I've changed the category to favorite classical piece and that would be Liebestraum No. 3 by Franz Liszt. Guaranteed I'll be falling asleep to this on the way to Ireland.

monday moments and some music

Oh hey, it's London.

Again with the late posting!! I'm just going to forewarn you: this will not be the best awkward and awesome post you will ever see. I'm lacking in the awesome department a little. But, I won't fail my happy 15 followers (welcome Paige) by not posting anything, so here you go!

awkward:

  • [The faint of heart should not read this one... it's a little gross] So tonight Kelsey and I went to Joe Vera's for dinner with my family. Right after that, we went to the gym to do yoga. Well, Kelsey's food didn't settle very well and she quickly went to the bathroom and puked. She came back and said she still had a gross taste in her mouth, so what did I do? I offered her my gum... that was already in my mouth. And she took it. That is true friendship right there.
  • The insane amount of tools all over golds gym. Really.
  • When we got home, we saw a couple in the parking lot. Naturally, I was like "who is that? who are they?". The best solution to find out was to shine our brights. So we did. We still don't know who they are.

awesome:

  • 8 days people! EIGHT! A little over a week and I will be on that plane to Ireland!
  • I got an old family friend, Chad Lewis (am I name dropping?), to come and do a fireside at our ward tonight. It. Was. Amazing. That guy knows now to touch people's lives.
  • The other day, I saw a guy walking down bulldog, strumming a ukulele. You go, uke man.

I didn't get to watch The Bachelorette. So, no commentary. Fear not, friends, there will be commentary sometime this week. I am going through finals right now, so there's plenty of studying going on... sorta.

Day 13: A song that is your guilty pleasure. I've chosen Pretty Girl Rock by Keri Hilson. When I first heard this song, I thought, wow, how vain. Now, I think it's pretty hilarious... and catchy.

Do you want an extra music bonus? I just heard this song and I'm loving it. Lost and Found- Kill Van Kulls.

May 30, 2011

monday moments!

awkward:

  • making eye contact with a guy who had his finger mid-knuckle up his nose.
  • women with bouffant hair and perfume so strong you can taste it.
  • ashley from the bachelorette thinking she's so good at dancing. and the fact that i'm hooked again on this show. can't. stop. watching (ps what's with the mask man?!).
  • while waiting at the airport, we saw a couple reuniting, in a makey-outey way. very intimately. as in, i was expecting him to lead her off to some secret bedroom off baggage claim. again, could. not. stop. watching.

awesome:

  • getting yummy red velvet cake pops from kelsey. sooo good.
  • i am officially over halfway done with spring term. yesss.
  • europe. 22 days. oooh my gosh. SO CLOSE! SO EXCITED!

day 3 of the song challenge is a song that makes you happy. here's the thing. music makes me happy. how can i pick just one!? but i have to. so, i've chosen winter winds by mumford and sons. every time it comes up on my shuffle, it lifts my mood. even the music video is pretty awesome.

monday moments

in honor of mustache may
oh monday. here you are again.

awkward:

  • scooching past several people to get to an open seat in class. sorry i knocked your notebook off your little desk. excuse my backside in your face. sorry i stepped on your foot.
  • having a boy open the door from behind me.  i spot a hand moving in my peripheral, then it's on the door in front of me, opening it,  causing me to dodge out of the way from getting hit by said door, and i'm thinking boy, you are incredibly close to me. BACK AWAY NOW.
  • the fact that i can never wear bangles, because they fall right off my hand when i put my arm down. sad story, huh?

awesome:

  • the other day, i saw a red limo convertible. yes you read that right. there were about 7 kids just chillin in the back and waving. nice.
  • oh hey, the lakers are out of the playoffs. wait they were swept out of the playoffs. can i get a woohoo?
  • my bed at home. holy comfy.
  • while singing redeemer of israel in class today, everyone was perfectly harmonized with each other. and with a hymn like that, who wouldn't get a little teary eyed?
  • MUSTACHE MAY!!! grow one if you can, buy one if you can't.

countdown florida: 3 days. countdown great britain: 43 days

monday moments

or frozen yogurt

sorry for the late post, friends! i have been enjoying a relaxing weekend at home with my family, and i started reading the alchemist. too bad i have to go back to school on wednesday, dang it.

awkward:

  • having approximately 85 tabs open and only one of them is playing music
  • telling someone that their zipper is undone. hmm...why were you looking there in the first place?
  • awkwardly laughing when you didn't actually hear what someone said, but you already said 'what?' too many times
  • kids on leashes. come on. that's just wrong.

awesome:

  • not having a single piece of homework or studying for 5 whole days!
  • ah, pistachio frozen yogurt from yogurt land. heaven
  • spending a lovely easter sunday with my cousins and their cute kids
  • countdown study abroad: 57 days.

April 18, 2011

monday moments

i really want this to happen to me

forgive the short-ness of this post. i've been cooped up studying for finals, which put a slight damper on me witnessing some awkwards and aweseomes.

awkward:

  • spending 6 hours studying for physiology in the library during the most beautiful day we've had so far in provo. boo
  • during that said study session, when i would take a visual break and look around, i kept making the most awkward eye contact with a boy directly in front of me, two tables away. it probably happened 23 times, no joke
  • calling someone and realizing you have to sneeze, so you pray it won't come, or that you'll be finished before they answer.

awesome:

  • two down, two to go
  • my hardest final, physiology, is now over (cue hallelujah chorus)
  • countdown to europe: 64 days. woo!
  • i really want to cuddle a nice lion. just have it give me a big ol' lion hug (like above). doesn't it look so snuggly??

to those of you taking finals: good luck. to those of you still in school for another month: ha-ha!

monday moments

just lovin it.

awkward:
  • so i turned on my electric toothbrush before it was in my mouth. cue tiny toothpaste droplets all over my face and in my hair. super
  • today, there was an annoying flickering light in the hallway. i kept shooting it dirty looks every time i passed, but it just kept flick-flick-flickering
  • the other day, i spilled most of my route 44 diet coke on the carpet. i was more upset about the lost dc than the carpet (btw, carpet is fine)
  • on friday, i went in to get my eyes checked by the ophthalmologist. they put in those drops that make your pupils huge. they were seriously the size of dimes. while waiting for it to take effect, i got my phone out, but i couldn't read anything. super awesome side effect of pupil dilators. my eyes turned out to be healthy, and i was instructed to wear sunglasses for 2-3 hours after, even in the overcast, rainy weather. so i drove to school (not really knowing how fast i was going or what time it was, eek) and strode to class, sunglasses and all, in the dreary weather. i only had one class, so i decided to ditch the sunglasses for an hour. bad idea. i was squinting and shielding my eyes the whole period. i also couldn't read what i was writing, nor what i was texting. this is what i sent kristen: i've probablyy stepped on 500 worms on the way hete. ans i'm nit even sue of this text mkaes sense because like the wprms, i xant see it. just one awkwardly awesome day.
  • back to the sunglasses thing: i really felt super awk wearing sunglasses inside. i didn't want anyone to think i was one of those people, who think they are so cool and wear sunglasses all the time. boo those people.
awesome:
  • seriously loving driving with the windows down and the sunroof open.
  • 2 more days of classes, woo! (then it's on to finals, then spring semester... boo.)
  • yogurtland. you guys. if you haven't been yet, go. go now! ahhh, every single flavor is so delicious! bah!
  • i found out from the eye doctor that i needed reading glasses. woo! i'm currently sporting my black framed ray bans :)

March 28, 2011

monday moments

i think i would have enjoyed this monday more if it hadn't snowed, again. come on.

awkward:

  • today, i dropped an avocado that i was about to cut up and eat. i apologized. i think it felt better.
  • a couple months ago, my roommate and i were creepin on this couple through our kitchen window. we waited 20 minutes for him to kiss her. we cheered, then we went to bed. if you decide to have your moment outside our kitchen window, beware, we will creep on you.
  • i always seem to get my hair caught on the seatbelt or the car door. it happens at least once a week, without fail.
  • the awkward moment of standing off to the side and smiling awkwardly while your friend talks to someone you don't know.
awesome:
  • the awesome girly sleepover i had friday. junk food. princess diaries. painting nails. 3 am. best friends.
  • during that sleepover, while we were talking in the dark, kelsey lit up her phone and said 'lumos'. we pretty much peed our pants over that.
  • 3 1/2 weeks of school left. can i get a woohoo?
  • scoring at target on friday: awesome chambray shirt, cute wedges, and a cross body purse.

March 21, 2011

monday moments

you know what day it is? monday. that's right. monday moments.

awkward:
  • the other day, i saw a couple jogging. holding hands. holding hands and jogging. wow.
  • sneezing after you have just finished that coat of mascara. this. makes. me. so. mad. hello raccoon eyes, now let's start over.
  • the fact that i still don't know the first sentence of our fight song.  Rise all loyal Cougars and hurl your challenge to the foe. i'm not even sure how the tune goes.
  • the weather today. come on.  i did not enjoy the rain/snow mixture. neither did my toms.
  • speaking of toms, while we were in vegas, a bird pooped right on my shoe. it nearly got my bare skin. did i mention we were inside? in a hotel?
awesome:
  • i have been ten times more fun this semester than in any other semester. we've gone to vegas for the MWC, california, and recently, park city.
  • i got to see jimmer break his record against new mexico in vegas. 52 points, yeah!
  • park city quick trip. junk food. hot tub. watching it's kind of a funny story, pretty in pink, and benny and joon. staying in our pj's til 4 pm.
  • see that ferris wheel? yeah, that's the london eye. need i remind you?

March 7, 2011

monday moments

it's monday moments guys! woo!

awkward:

  • this picture. guys. look at my face. it says: i'm trying to look like i'm having fun, but i think i might have peed my pants in terror... too good not to share. (can you tell we are doing YMCA?)
  • the fact that i was sleeping with my eyes open on a short car ride while in california. eyes open.
  • when young students in love cuddle in class. seriously people, i'm trying to learn the teachings of paul, and you nuzzling in front of me makes it hard to concentrate. stop.
  • when security guards at the airport tell me to have a nice flight and i answer, 'you too!', then walk away thinking, wait...
  • this weather. seriously.

awesome:

  • the fact that i turned my AC on last week. yeah, last week. hello again, seat warmers.
  • getting my hair washed by someone else. i just love when they massage my scalp, making me fall asleep in the chair. also, doesn't it seem cleaner when someone else washes it? i think so.
  • the win that byu had over wyoming. and that the knights won state. and the jazz won. woo basketball!
  • flash mob. so what if i've watched these videos 100 times. it was epic.
  • my friends. best people in this world. period.
  • VEGAS this weekend for the MWC! go cougs!

i hope it's a good week for everyone!

and lucky you, you get a playlist of four songs! woo!

February 14, 2011

monday moments

you're starting to love mondays now, aren't you?! i knew it.

awkward:

  • when i use hand motions while i'm on the phone. yes, i know they can't see me. but i still do it anyway.
  • the crazy dreams i had last week! 1. kobe bryant and i were bff's. i woke up kinda liking the guy. til i realized that i'm not too fond of him. bad. 2. i was a contestant on the price is right! i do not watch the show, and i'm not even sure how to play. but i did guess that a jacket from nordstrom was 42 dollars.
  • when people in my ward ask if i'm new. them: hey i haven't seen you here before! me: uh really? them: how long have you been in the ward? me: since august. them: ohhh. then i want to add "really?"
  • burning my tongue on all things hot. every time. i'm way too impatient to wait for my soup/cocoa/tea to cool down. working on it.

awesome:

  • california in t-minus 3 days! WARM WEATHER!
  • down comforters- i just love those things, the sound they make, how fluffy they are...everything.
  • shaving my legs after it had been... a while. yeah, a while.
  • the fact that i just got these little beauties:

happy valentine's day, everyone!

california.... here we come!

February 7, 2011

monday moments

it's that time again! it seems like these are the only posts i've been making...hopefully that will change soon!

awkward:

  • automatic toilets flushing when you're not finished. worse: when it flushes multiple times. i hate that. water sprays up then you stand up in scream a little. i'm not finished with you yet!
  • guys who wear sunglasses inside. either you're blind (that's ok), or you're a tool. i'm guessing it's the latter since you have no guide dog or stick thingy.
  • having a phone in the hotel bathroom. what, are you going to take care of business while taking care of business?
  • running with a backpack on. ultimate nerdy look.

awesome:

  • flying alone for the first time! woo!
  • vegas for my cousin's wedding. ahh...so warm.
  • california girl's trip in less than two weeks!
  • super bowl goodness (food, friends, fun)
  • this photo. it may be awkward, but it is awesome in its awkwardness. please go to awkward family photos and laugh your pants off.

p.s. michelle you are crazy. legitimately crazy! i strongly dislike you and your overly dramatic eyebrows!

monday moments

hello followers! so i'm starting one of those weekly things: monday moments, where i tell you about some awkward things that have happened recently, then some awesome things. sound familiar? because sydney over at the daybook does this too. so rather than making one post dedicated to one awkward/awesome moment, there will be a whole lot of awkwardness and awesomeness in one post. you excited? better be.

awkward:
  • this picture. girls faking mustaches and unibrows. attractive. (no one hate me for this, please)
  • being in my sweats, hair on top of my head, no make up, and needing to get to kelsey's place six-ish doors down. checking to see if the coast is clear. ok...go. shuffle shuffle as fast as i can in my slippers, then, lo and behold a boy walks out of an apartment. 'oh, hey'. crap.
  • nearly falling on ice in the parking lot at work
  • the awkward moment when you and just one other person are walking in a hallway towards each other, and you're frantically thinking if you should say hi or not. as they get closer, suddenly the pictures on the wall are a lot more interesting than before.
awesome:
  • LONDON.
  • getting praised by doctors at work, telling me that i'm good with patients and would be a good pa.
  • new shirts from nordstrom.
  • christmas in a cup.
  • overheard at byu's page on fbook. hilarious guys.
  • celebrating my awesome brother's birthday for two days in a row! happy 27th bro, a lot of people love you.

i and love and you- avett brothers
